May 30: LSC 2.0 Internet of Things Technology Talk and Agricultural Site Tour with Impact LABS

Innovation in local food security

Did you know that the SouthCoast is pioneering new technology to support the work of local growers and food security?

Impact LABS is a New Bedford-based startup that deploys Internet of Things solutions for small and mid-sized operations, to address grand challenges with profit and resilience.

The Internet of Things, or IoT, is the instrumentation of the physical world. Sensors provide us with real-time data on factors like temperature, occupancy, humidity, and other pertinent information. This data can be used to predict behavior, monitor equipment or conditions, and manage resources.

In this outing, we will learn how Impact LABS is using IoT to support two local operations: Sharing the Harvest program at the Dartmouth YMCA and Salt Creek Vineyards. We’ll get a basic overview of IoT, see how the equipment is deployed at different sites, and learn how the data helps farmers and growers reduce risk and manage resources more efficiently.

The tour will be led by ImpactLABS, as well as representatives from Analog Devices, a world leader in the manufacture of circuits and electrical equipment. We will conclude the tour with a wine and cheese tasting at Salt Creek Vineyards.

When: Tuesday, May 30, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Where: Sharing the Harvest Farm, Dartmouth, MA

This event is free for LSC alumni, but registration is required. Register here to attend.
