What do you do professionally?
I am the Assistant Farm Manager/ Executive Chef/ Kitchen Manager at Round the Bend Farm in South Dartmouth. I started out as a volunteer at the farm in 2009 and decided to officially jump on board when an opportunity to do so presented itself. I prepare nutritious farm fresh foods for folks who live and work at the farm. I process foods that are grown in-season that help to get us through the off-season. I help with the livestock operation, Paradox Acres and a myriad of other tasks and there’s never a dull moment. I am able to do what I do because I am part of a wonderful talented team that supports one another and shares experiences daily.
How are you involved in the community and what motivates you to engage?
Round the Bend Farm participates at many different events. What motivates me to engage are recognizing opportunities to work towards positive change, learn from others, and share. I enjoy volunteering and am always seeking different volunteer opportunities.
What did you find most valuable about the LSC experience and how did it contribute to your community leadership?
As someone who grew up in Lakeville, then moved to Boston for 20 years and came back, I was looking to find out about what was going on in the area. LSC provided me the opportunity to find out about different issues affecting the greater New Bedford/ Fall River area through field trips and speakers, and provided networking opportunities and helped me to learn more about myself through the homework exercises and group dialogues.
This coming season with the official additions of the library, offices, certified commercial kitchen, and classroom at Round the Bend, I am looking to make some magic happen in the local communities and hopefully help inspire all ages. Be on the lookout for great things to come!
