I am a Legislative Aide for State Representative Antonio F.D. Cabral, Chair of the House Committee on Bonding, 13th Bristol District. I could go on forever describing my job duties, but I will summarize by saying that my main priority is to ensure that Rep. Cabral has the resources to effectively reach and assist the citizens in his district. I also help to ensure pertinent information from his office and the state reaches the community. What I love most about my position is that it allows me to connect with members of my community and gives me a platform of resources to help solve their problems, especially those who are less fortunate.

How are you involved in the community?

Volunteering as a board member is a MUST for me; it’s my way to give back to my community. It gives me great pleasure and pride to be a member of one of the oldest community organizations in New Bedford, the Cape Verdean Association (CVANB). I am also a virtual board member of the Cape Verdean Embassy Task Force in Washington D.C. We identify non-governmental and non-profit organizations that provide services to immigrants and offer them assistance and support.

What did you find most valuable about participating in LSC?

I am humbled and blessed to be able to feel as if I am living my life’s purpose. It has always been my dream to help make real change in this world of confusion and inequality. Both my career and leadership have been positively impacted by what I learned and experienced while participating in Leadership SouthCoast. Words can not express how grateful I am to have had the opportunity.

How are you leading during the COVID-19?

My role as a Legislative Aide has allowed me to play a very  important role during this pandemic: helping members of my community locate resources to ease their stress and pain during this crisis. As leaders, we must remain calm and be kind to one another. Alone we fail, but together we become the change. #ForeverLSCAlumni
