Commercial Lines Account Executive, Sylvia Group
What do you do professionally?
As a member of the Sylvia Group team, I help to carry on our company’s 65 year tradition of strengthening our community by protecting local companies, workers and families through our suite of insurance, employee benefits and financial planning services. Previously, I worked to foster local economic development and growth as a member of the New Bedford Economic Development Council. Prior to coming back home and working in the SouthCoast, I directed humanitarian projects in Latin America to create jobs, improve the environment, and increase the sustainability of medical programs.
How are you engaged in the Community and what motivates you to be involved?
I am motivated to engage across our community because I see the great potential that our region has to build a SouthCoast where there is opportunity for all. There are so many great organizations across the region, and I try to make a difference wherever I can. I am a member of the Board of Directors at Leadership SouthCoast and at Junior Achievement. I also serve on the SouthCoast Health Business Council and the New Bedford Economic Development Council. Each summer, I volunteer at the Ron Burton Training Village to support programs for at-risk youth.
What did you find most value about your LSC experience? How did it contribute to your community leadership?
The most valuable component of my LSC experience was to have the opportunity to build relationships with so many different types of leaders across the region. Through my participation in the class and the LSC Board, I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from so many people that I now call my friends, colleagues and mentors. LSC has greatly contributed to my ability to be a leader in the community by opening doors for me to engage and by helping me build the skills to make a difference.
